Hastings Pier & White Rock Trust (HPWRT) are extremely pleased at the decision last night (12.07.10) of Hastings Borough Council Cabinet to formally start the CPO process which will lead to the transfer of ownership of Hastings Pier to the Trust.
We have been working for nearly four years to preserve and develop the pier and this decision now allows the Trust to actively pursue the necessary funding. Our recently conducted feasibility study by Leisure Development Partners and Colman Architects indicated that £8m would be required for the first phase development. Our recent and ongoing discussions with Government ministers and potential funders leave us very confident of raising the necessary funds.
Trustee Chris Dodwell said ‘This is good news not just for the pier but for the economic regeneration of the whole of Hastings. Our message to funders is that Hastings Pier is not only a valuable historical icon but is an asset from which everyone will benefit and importantly create a large number of permanent jobs. It is the key to the future development of tourism along the whole seafront.’
The Trust will holding public displays, this Saturday 17th July, at Priory Meadow Shopping Centre, Hastings and also at St.Leonards Festival, Warrior Square, St.Leonards-on-Sea we hope to see you all there.
Hastings Pier is one of the ten projects currently being supported through the community shares project.
